It’s a GIRL! Just about three weeks ago now, in the early hours of July 25th, we welcomed our sweet baby girl into the world! We named her Alice Jane– Alice was my mom’s name. She passed away when I was almost 4 years old and left a beautiful legacy, so we thought Alice would be the perfect name for our girl. Jane is my aunt’s middle name (the aunt who assumed the “mom” position when my mom passed away) and it also means “God is gracious” which we think is so completely fitting. In the past 10 months, we got pregnant, Ben’s dad passed away and we continue to feel the weight of losing him as well as we feel the astounding peace of Christ, we finished building our house, lost our two beloved dogs, Ben got a new job promotion, we got a puppy… and all while life went on around us. Crazy. And through it all, the things we mourned and the things we rejoiced in, we saw God in it all. God is so gracious. So Alice Jane is our first baby daughter. After 8 years of marriage, I have never felt so complete as I do now as a “family”. I think my favorite thing about all of this is watching Ben be Alice’s dad. Even in just three weeks, it’s been tough at times! Babies are all the things people say– they are hard, they are worth it, they make you cry, they make you laugh, they sleep a lot, they eat a lot, they cry a lot, they exhaust you, and you love your baby with a fierce and surprising love. We have had so many visits, helpful hands, meals, prayers, gifts, cards… people have poured out their love on baby Alice and we are just so grateful! I have about three more weeks of maternity leave and I am so thankful for this time and the opportunity to heal and figure out our new normal. And of course, nap. :)
Thanks to Bella Baby for these photos of Alice on her very first day here with us!
The day we headed home! We were equally thankful to finally break out of that hospital room and nervous to leave all the wonderful care the nurses provided us! As we walked outside I couldn’t believe they were turning us loose… with a tiny baby! We’ve been doing just fine though. ;)
And then we of course had a mini photo session of our own when she was a week old! :)
