Nicole + James | Foxhill Park Portrait Session

In the movie Shall We Dance there is a quote on marriage that I often think about:

“We need a witness to our lives. There’s a billion people on the planet… I mean, what does any one life really mean? But in a marriage, you’re promising to care about everything. The good things, the bad things, the terrible things, the mundane things… all of it, all of the time, every day. You’re saying ‘Your life will not go unnoticed because I will notice it. Your life will not go un-witnessed because I will be your witness'”.

The quote is by Susan Sarandon’s character- I realize her character may not be the picture of a perfect marriage and the movie may not be a piece of cinematic genius (though I am, admittedly, a sucker for most any chick-flick) but nevertheless, I do kind of love that quote. I think in a lot of ways it’s very true and I have to say it makes me think a little of photography as well. Whether it’s your wedding day or just the ideal fall day to have portraits done, what a perfect reason to document and notice this moment in life.

Nicole and James are friends of ours from church and I was honored to document this moment in their lives. They’ve been married for a few years and wanted to have portraits done at one of their favorite local spots, Foxhill Park. We met on one of the warmest fall afternoons, and as we walked the trails of Foxhill Park the words from Shall We Dance kind of hung in my head. And I thought, I am thankful for these moments when I get to document love. When I am invited in, because we need a witness to our lives {and what better than photographs to keep track of it all}.

My. Goodness. I have pretty friends. ;)
