And so it is, my December self-portrait brought to you in January… it works out well though, I think, because it gives reason for a small (personal) recap of 2012. In the way of a business recap of 2012, I don’t even know where to begin. I am so thankful to each and every one of my clients and I am beyond grateful and in awe of where God took me and my business in just one year.
So even though it is technically 2013… here it is- my final self-portrait for 2012.
I am not completely sure what it is I hoped to get out of this little project of mine. Initially I think I wanted to force myself to be in front of the camera once every month- to be in the position that my clients are in. But admittedly, not every photo ended up being the result of a mini photo shoot. In some ways maybe I wanted to document my year in self-portraits to look back and “remember when”. In the end, I am not sure what the true outcome is, but I think I am glad I did it. Maybe it’s more a project showing the evolution of my hair, or a litmus test for which smile is my most becoming in photos, or perhaps it’s my subconscious self’s desperate plea to please, please wear some tinted lip gloss. Either way, here are all 12. :)
And in a nostalgic moment looking back at my year, I scrolled through my iPhone photos and found these extended-arm-self-portraits with Ben. I couldn’t help but love these poor-quality photos for each of their stories.
It’s our weekend trip to Chattanooga, TN to visit friends and recruit staff from Covenant College for summer camp… It’s the first time we went to see the Cherry Blossoms in DC during peak season, even though we’ve lived here our whole lives… It’s the last night in our empty townhouse- saying goodbye to our sweet home of 5 years… It’s eating the world’s greatest food at the Annapolis Greek Festival on our anniversary, right after I finished shooting a wedding… It’s our 2-day vacation to Ocean City right after my last summer as Summer Director at camp and right before my first days as a full-time photographer… It’s going to a National’s baseball game and getting ridiculously amazing seats and free food thanks to our sweet friends… It’s running in the DC Color Run like wild banshees… It’s our yearly trip to Georgia to visit our dear family and friends (and those tall trees with spanish moss)… It’s my husband surprising me with a perfect birthday trip to New York City… It’s 2012 and I am forever grateful for the memories made.Happy 2013, my friends! Happy new year- here’s to the new memories just waiting to be made.
