Friends, I tell you I am under Stockholm’s spell. I arrived here a week ago because my dear friends Kristi-Anna and Johannes are getting married this upcoming Saturday! I came a bit early to help Kristi with wedding preparations but in between ribbon-tying and schedule-making, we have had time for some sightseeing as well! Stockholm is a really beautiful city, and apart from being entirely too unprepared for the 50-60 degree weather in June, I am completely smitten with the long summer days… it it really doesn’t get pitch black for more than an hour if at all! One of my first mornings here last week I woke up around 3am and grabbed my camera because I couldn’t believe the how bright the sky was!
It’s also incredible in the middle of the day… but don’t let the sun deceive you, that is chilly Scandinavian air!
The summer solstice is a big holiday for Sweden, so Kristi & Johannes and Johannes’ sister Sara, took me to Midsommar celebration to see the maypole (or Midsommar pole). Kristi and I made ourselves traditional head wreaths from wildflowers and we all finished the day with a true Swedish meal.
We spent an afternoon in Old Town Stockholm and I honestly think it’s one of the most beautiful cities I have visited. Charming.
And then there is fika… a break taken at any time you like, to enjoy tea, coffee and a sweet snack. I die. They are getting married in 5 days!!
Kristi and Johannes treated me to an incredible seafood restaurant and we finished at 11pm (it’s hard to plan a normal day when it’s light out all the time! Plus wedding planning, you know…) and this was our view after dinner. I just can’t get over it! 11:00pm!
This week more family and friends arrive and we will travel to a small town in Sweden for the wedding weekend. This trip has already been so wonderful, mostly for the sweet time with friends but also for the adventure. I just never tire of all our great world has to offer. I can’t wait to share more with you!
