Wow, I can’t believe how far we have come since my last house update. It’s really incredible to see our house at this stage, as it is SO close to being finished! I can start to see glimpses of us actually living in this home- and THAT is so exciting! There’s a lot to add in this update… the last time I blogged we only had roof trusses in place and walls framed out! Now there are walls, electricity, and more! I have been a slacker in updating along the way which was totally not my intention! I wanted to be really diligent about keeping up with the progress! (And I know some of you have been chomping at the bit to see, ahem, Meagan… so sorry my friend!) But to be honest, the busier things have gotten with the house, the busier our lives have been! Fall was my busiest time of year for weddings and we also dealt with a huge loss in our lives as we said goodbye to Ben’s dad unexpectedly. We are so thankful for the legacy he leaves and the peace and comfort we have in Christ! Ben’s dad helped Ben on weekends quite a bit with the house… so it is even more special knowing that he had a hand in building our home. Along with life throwing curve balls, we have also learned even more about house-building and planning in these last two months than we ever imagined. This whole process has been amazing and overwhelming at the same time, but as we get down to the finishing touches there is so much to choose and budget certainly plays a part in all of that! In the last two months, we have chosen lighting fixtures and placement, cabinetry, garage doors, flooring… everything including the kitchen sink! Crazy! What’s even more amazing to me is the overwhelming number of friends who have come out to help with so much! Painting, flooring, hanging cabinets… I am so incredibly humbled and thankful. We have amazing friends! So, while Christmas is tomorrow and we have not yet moved in like I was praying… we continue to see how God’s provision and timing is just perfect. We will be able to move in next month, and that is cause for celebration! :) So Merry Christmas my friends. This year Ben and I are giving each other counter tops and sink faucets. ;)
Once the roof was fully in place, we got doors and windows! We chose a “prairie” grid style for the windows. And that front door will get a gel stain in mahogany. I have to say… I love our front door. A lot.
Then, we got shingles!
Then we got siding…
Drywall was one of the most exciting parts for me, because it really allowed us to see the shapes of the rooms. Quickly after the drywall, everything was painted because an incredible team of our friends came to make it happen. I will showcase the colors better later… but the fabulous Courtney of Hardie Design designed and chose all the paint colors and I am beyond thankful for her and our decision to have her come in for this part of the process! (I painted and repainted our townhouse multiple times in the 5 years we lived there. So I needed to call in the professional for this!)
We put a ton of recessed lighting throughout the house which I love. But we chose fixtures for our outdoor lighting and my one “pièce de résistance” in the kitchen that will hang over the island!
Our master bath shower tile…
And the start of kitchen cabinets!
So close!… Thank you all who have helped, prayed, cheered us on and followed our journey. Here’s to 2015 and making this house our home! (Ooh, and you get a sneak peek of the garage doors here! They aren’t finished yet… but it’s a start!)
